Easily Calculate Paint Needs for Your Next Project
Knowing how much paint to buy can be tricky. Over-buying leads to wasted money and leftover paint, while under-buying means extra trips to the store and project delays. Our easy-to-use paint calculator takes the guesswork out of estimating your paint needs.
To use the calculator, simply enter the room dimensions you'll be painting, including ceiling height. Then input the number of doors, windows, and any other areas that won't be painted. This ensures you only calculate for the surfaces requiring coverage.
Next, select your desired paint brand from the dropdown menu. Our calculator has coverage details and pricing for major brands like Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Behr, and Farrow & Ball built right in. Can't find your preferred brand? No problem - just choose the "Other" option and manually enter the coverage rate and cost per gallon.
The calculator will automatically populate the recommended number of coats for your selected brand. Most paints require two topcoats for full coverage and durability, though some premium lines may achieve coverage in one coat. You can adjust this field if needed based on the manufacturer's guidance.
In addition to the number of coats, consider the paint finish when selecting your product. Low-luster finishes like flat/matte work well for living rooms and bedrooms, while semi-gloss or satin are more durable options for high-traffic areas like kitchens and bathrooms. For trim and moldings, choose a high-gloss paint.
Once you've entered all the details, the calculator will determine precisely how many gallons are required based on the paint's coverage rate per gallon. It also shows the total project cost so you can plan accordingly.
By accurately calculating your needs upfront, you can purchase exactly what you require - no more, no less. No more over-buying or under-buying paint! Try our calculator today and take the stress out of estimating quantities for your next interior painting project.

ABOUT havard cooper III
Havard Cooper is a designer and architect based in New York. His study of classical music in his youth gracefully segued into a fruitful residential architecture and interior design career.
